Sway Bars FAQ

What Does a Sway Bar Do for a Vehicle?

Whether you know one as an anti-roll bar, a stabilizer bar, an anti-sway bar, or a roll bar, it's one of the many critical parts of your ride's suspension. What it does is connect opposite wheels, using short lever arms linked together by torsion springs, and what that does is increase the roll stiffness of the suspension. More straightforwardly, it keeps that unnerving "lean" you feel cornering fast or driving across uneven terrain (i.e., "body roll") to a minimum.

How Much Does Adding or Replacing a Sway Bar Cost on Average?

It depends on parts, plus what make and model you drive and whether you have the job done at a dealership's service centre. According to RepairPal, a link kit, for instance, may run $145 to $200 CAD. Bushings for bars, on the other hand, might go for $200 or $270 CAD. The bars themselves, though: you might be looking at a few hundred CAD just to start with. Whether you're doing repairs or upgrading, be sure to use OEM parts; they'll come guaranteed to fit, not to mention backed by warranty.
